September 1978
Party Central Committee[1978] No. 56 document forwarded to the Party Group of the Ministry of Health "Report on Seriously Implementing the Party's Traditional Chinese Medicine Policy and Solving the Problems of the Incontinuity of the Chinese medicine team." Comrade Deng Xiaoping pointed out in his instructions: "This issue should be taken seriously, especially to create good material conditions for the development and improvement of Chinese medicine. "
April 1982
The Ministry of Health held the National Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals and Higher Traditional Chinese Medicine Education in Hengyang, and put forward the guiding principle of "highlighting the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, giving full play to its advantages, and developing the cause of traditional Chinese medicine." It made it clear that the three forces of traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine, and traditional Chinese and Western medicine should all be vigorously developed and coexist for a long time. History known as "Hengyang Conference."

The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine was formally established. In May 1988, the executive meeting of the State Council decided to establish the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and to transfer the management functions of traditional Chinese medicine from the State Administration of Medicine to the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

On December 25, 2016, the 25th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress voted to pass China's first special law on Chinese medicine, the Chinese Medicine Law of the People's Republic of China, to develop national legal protection for Chinese medicine. On July 1, 2017, the Chinese Medicine Law of the People's Republic of China, which has received much attention, was formally implemented. This is the first comprehensive law in China that comprehensively and systematically reflects the characteristics of Chinese medicine.
